Ayurvedic Indian head massage

Indian head massage is based on the ayurvedic system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. Even today, it provides Indian families with relaxation and healing on a daily basis, as well as playing a part in rituals such as weddings and births creating a connectedness within the family. Babies are massaged regularly from their birth on. When they are a little older, mothers oil and massage their head, scalp and neck. Indian head massage (IHM) is an integral part of the Indian tradition of massage which takes care of well-being, prevention of illness and connectedness within the family.

In our modern lives, most of what we experience daily is processed in the head. We look at screens, we drive long distances, we read, we study and watch TV taking in huge amounts of information mainly through our eyes. As a result we often gather stress, tension and tightness in the head, neck, upper back and shoulder area. The aim of Indian head massage (IHM) is to release the stress, tension and fatigue that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders. This increases the blood circulation and flow in the whole cranium (including the brain), face and eyes. When the brain relaxes, the whole nervous system and body relaxes.

This workshop is tightly packed with teachings, theory, practise, self care and centering exercises. The participants will exchange sessions with each other and will be guided and supervised through each exchange by Devapria Gokani.

In just two days, you will learn the basics of IHM that will enable you to give a good 30 to 45 minute individual Indian head massage session. No massage tables are necessary, as the client remains fully clothed in a seated position.

No previous experience in other massage techniques is necessary.
