Learning from Oneself

We often search the understanding and answers in the world around us and yet we can find wisdom and insight in ourselves. We have much bigger influence on how we feel than we are aware of. What is the difference between the days when it is better and when it is worse? If we become aware of our inner experiencing we can influence it, change it. These inner processes are created by ourselves even though most of the time unconsciously. This little exercise can help you to ellucidate your inner reality and thus make it conscious. This approach is coming from Hypnotherapy inspired by Milton Erickson.

This approach can help you to find your resources, especially in context of relationships, where we tend to loose ourselves in the other.

Now

Choose a moment where a relationship issue is active.

Sit in a comfortable way for a while, close your eyes.

Start with noticing your body.

How does your body feel now? Where is it relaxed, where is it tense? How do you breathe? Does it feel coordinated or uncoordinated, hot or cold or neutral?

How big do you subjectively feel?

How old do you subjectively feel?

How sensitive are you about your inner needs for closeness and distance?

Do you look at the other rather from a perspective of cooperation or struggle?

Do you have any pictures present on the inside?

Are there any inner dialogues?

Find a symbol, or a picture for you and your situation right now. What is this symbol?

A resourceful experience from the past

Remember a moment, when you were feeling better, and notice how you felt there. How does your body feel there? Where is it relaxed, where is it tense? How do you breathe? Does it feel coordinated or uncoordinated, hot or cold or neutral?

How big do you subjectively feel?

How old do you subjectively feel?

How sensitive are you about your inner needs for closeness and distance?

Do you look at the other rather from a perspective of cooperation or struggle?

Do you have any pictures present on the inside?

Are there any inner dialogues?

Find a symbol, or a picture for you and your situation right now. What is this symbol?

Understanding

Take a moment and notice where are the biggest differences, what made the difference in how you feel, how you perceive the world and people around you, and how you are in contact with love, understanding and awareness.

Integration

Take responsibility and take care for your needs, support what made it possible to cope better in that situation, and bring this into your present situation.
